Could You Wear Just 33 Things?

I was on Twitter this afternoon when I happened across a Tweet by Low Impact Betty. Betty has gotten tired of all the clutter in her closet, and she’s taken on a really unique challenge.

She’s picking 33 things, and 33 things only, to wear for the next three months.

Now, this doesn’t include undergarments and workout clothes (provided she only wears her workout clothes when she’s actually working out). But it does include things like belts, shoes and jewelry.

Want to see Betty’s list of items she chose? She listed it for all us to see:

  • 1 pair of black flats
  • 1 pair of boots
  • 1 pair of Toms
  • 1 pair of Vans
  • 1 coat
  • 3 pair of jeans
  • 3 sweaters
  • 1 sweatshirt
  • 1 dress
  • 2 v-necks
  • 3 t-shirts
  • 7 tank tops
  • 1 purse
  • 1 backpack
  • 1 pair sunglasses
  • 1 hat
  • 1 bracelet
  • 3 necklaces

The project was actually started over at Be More With Less, and it runs today, Oct. 1, through December 31. The challenge is to pick 33 items that you’ll wear for the next three months.

I know…it’s a bit daunting when you first actually consider doing it.

I really think I’m going to give it a try though. I love this idea, and am going to start making my own choices later this afternoon. Reducing your wardrobe like this is, in my opinion, eco fashion at is finest. Especially when you can’t buy something without having to get rid of something else.

Be More With Less recommends boxing and taping up everything that didn’t make the cut so you’re not tempted to wear it, and I think this is sound advice. Knowing me, I’d be in there digging by the end of the week.

What do you guys think…could you do it? I’d love to hear back on you about this! And if you decide to jump in and take the challenge too, let me know! And kudos to Low Impact Betty for taking the challenge and spreading the work about this great event.

  1. I think I could do it easy. Like Betty, I am sick of all the choices and clutter and dirty laundry.I generally wear only my favorite shoes anyway and could get by with t-shirts, shorts, pants…I am not working so I don’t have to worry about that wardrobe thank God!
