So, I know I just wrote about how to have a fair trade Valentine’s Day. But the thing is if you’re single, or you and your partner are “on the outs”, you might not want to have a fair trade Valentine’s Day. In fact, you might not want to have any kind of Valentine’s Day at all.
I can’t say I disagree. My husband and I never celebrate Valentine’s Day simply because we’re one of those dorky couples who believe you should show the people you love them every day, not just on February 14. Plus, I believe that all those paper cards, boxes of chocolate and red teddy bears from China are just wasteful, seeing as how most of it ends up in the trash.
But, Valentine’s Day is a great reminder that I should do something special for myself. And often, I like to take that day to do a little self pampering.
Here are some eco friendly ways you can pamper yourself on V-Day…no special someone needed.
1. Make Yourself a Healthy Smoothie
Today, I splurged and bought a Breville juicer from Amazon. Hopefully it will get here before Valentine’s Day. If it does, you can bet I’m going to make a super nutritious carrot-celery-beet smoothie for myself. Yum!
Healthy smoothies make you feel great, are often loaded with fiber, and they’re wonderful ways to sneak in a huge amount of vitamins and nutrients. If you have a blender or juicer, then why not make yourself one to start the day off right?
2. Splurge on a Fair Trade Bag
If you need, or want, a cool handbag, then why not splurge on one that’s fair trade? I know I’m a bit biased, but our hemp handbags are truly wonderful. They’re also 100% fair trade, and we give 100% of our profits back to the artisans who make our bags. Since most of them are women, every purchase truly helps change a life.
One of my favorite new bags for spring is this fun little number, which you can see here:
You can also see our hundreds of other bags, which are made with hemp, organic cotton and recycled silk, at EarthDivas.com.
3. Give Yourself an Eco Friendly Facial
I used to love the Honey Oatmeal mask made and sold at The Body Shop. Until they stopped selling it. But a quick search on the web made me realize I could make this awesome mask myself, at home, for pennies. Now, that’s all I do!
Making your own Honey Oatmeal mask is a wonderful, eco friendly splurge. It’s a wonderful mask for winter because our skin is dried out from the frozen outdoor weather, and the super dry and warm indoor temperature.
Here’s the recipe I use, from Natural Health Web:
1/3 cup of regular or fast cook oatmeal (1-3 minutes)
¼ cup of honey
½ cup of water
Mix the water and the oatmeal together, and cook. Then, set the oatmeal aside to cool and thicken. As it is cooling, mix in the ¼ cup of honey. Once the mask is well mixed and cool, apply a thin even layer to the skin.
Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, and then scrub off!
You could also make yourself an amazing Brown Sugar Coconut Body Scrub. This concoction smells amazing once it’s made, and I highly recommend it if you’d love a luscious shower resulting in smooth, glowing skin.
You can see the recipe I used over at Green Earth Bazaar, as part of the DIY Fridays.
I hope you have a wonderful and eco-friendly Valentine’s Day!
