My Favorite Recycled Cowboy Hat

When you see the word “cowboy hat”, it brings to mind outdoorsy types, ruggedly strong (and handsome) faces, braving the elements…you know, images with backbone.

Most people don’t ever associate “recycled” in the same sentence as “cowboy hat”. But, I’m breaking down walls here and writing about Real Deal Brazil’s awesome recycled cowboy hats.

Why? Because I own one, I’m actually wearing it right now as I write this (hey, cowboy hats look great with pajamas) and my Real Deal Brazil hat is my favorite (and only) hat I own.

Think it’s funny looking? Well it is. Here are some more angles of this rockin’ hat…

Why Real Deal Brazil Rocks…

The reason why I love Real Deal Brazil hats is because the’re made using 100% recycled materials. Like what?

Ok, imagine this: you’re deep in the South American jungle, driving a semi truck through miles and miles of dripping jungle. You’re hauling bananas and coffee to Brazil’s ports so they can be exported to the United States. Here’s what your rig looks like…

After a few months or years of this, you can only imagine what happens to the canvas covering on top of your rig. It gets pooped on by tropical birds, whipped by ocean winds, drenched on by Amazon rains, ripped by tropical branches. In short, it gets beat up.

When the canvas truck covering gets to a certain level of “beat up”, they’re thrown away, taking up some really valuable landfill space. That is, until Real Deal Brazil came around and started to take these canvas coverings and turn them into hats and bags…

To…

The hats are shapeable. And guess what? The wire in the brim that allows you to shape your hat is recycled as well; the wire is pulled out of old truck tires.

No Hat Is Alike

Because every piece of canvas is different, every single Real Deal Brazil hat is different. Some have tons of patches. Some have writing. All of them have character. Every hat is hand stitched in equatorial Brazil…providing jobs to people who really need them.

I love my Real Deal Brazil hat because it’s just…cool. I love putting it on and thinking about how the canvas I’m now wearing on my head used to live a rough and tumble life down in the Amazon. How fun is that?

Plus, these things will last forever. The canvas is heavy and it’s obvious once you put it on that they’re made to last.

If you need a hat, and want one with character, check out Real Deal Brazil.
