I lovelovelove finding cool new projects that allow me to upcycle my clothes. And just this morning I was stumbling around the Internet and found a new favorite blog: Honestly WTF.
Ok, so the blog title is a bit provocative (which I love), and the content is top-notch. These girls cover art, fashion, and have a wonderful DIY section full of super cool projects, many of which center on upcycling materials.
They have a dandy tutorial on how to make a market bag out of old concert t-shirts. And, I have to say I can’t wait to make this after work because here’s the kicker: you don’t need to sew anything to make this bag. Whoo-hoo! I’m almost crippled with my lack of sewing skills (which I truly do need to remedy soon), which is why this particular design is ideal.
What makes this bag unique is the bottom; as you can see, the girls used strips from the top of the t-shirt to thread through the hem at the bottom of the shirt. All they did was tie it off. Take a look:
Total time to make? 15 minutes.
If you have a ton of old t-shirts that are just too cool to throw away or donate, this is the perfect way to reuse them. You can see full instructions for this project (along with several more pictures), here.
I’d highly recommend you check out the rest of Honestly WTF. It’s a wonderful site full of fun and cheerful projects (like DIY Friendship bracelets, which I’ll be diving into after my market bag!) to keep you occupied happily for hours. Yay!
