So, I have a really exciting announcement to make. Here at Earth Divas, we’ve decided to really promote shopping fair trade this year. Of course, we couldn’t do something small and easy like writing a post or sending out a few letters…what fun is that?
No, we’re starting an global campaign called Divas4Divas!
Here’s how it works. We’re asking women to purchase their holiday gifts from fair-trade vendors who sell products made by women artisans in developing countries. It’s Women Helping Women!
Starting next week, the Divas4Divas website will go live. It will act as a portal, kind of a “one-stop-shopping” list of other fair trade retailers who support women artisans. All you have to do is head over to Divas4Divas; you’ll see all these retailers divided by category, a picture of what they sell, and the story behind their efforts.
We’re also creating a gorgeaous badge that shoppers and bloggers can share with others to help spread the word about this campaign and encourage others to shop fair trade this holiday season. I’ll just say this: it’s beautiful, powerful, and you’ll get to see it next week!
The Impact of Shopping Fair Trade
Well, what we do at Earth Divas is a great example of how fair trade can change someone’s life. Whenever someone buys one of our bags, a woman in India or Nepal can continue making bags for us.
She uses the income she earns from us to buy food for her family. She can send her kids to school, insulate her home against the heat and cold, and purchase health care for herself. And here at Earth Divas it makes an even bigger difference because we return 100% of our profits back to the artists at the end of the year.
When you shop fair trade, you not only get a beautiful handmade gift to give, but you truly help lift someone else out of poverty. You make a real difference! Just imagine what a difference we could make if all of us made a commitment to buy fair trade gifts this year. We could change a lot of lives this way!
The Divas4Divas Campaign will start next week, and I’ll certainly let you all know when we’re live!
