I’ve seen Emma Watson in some great films, my favorite of which is “My Week with Marilyn.” She is as talented as she is beautiful, but all of us at Earth Divas love Ms. Watson for another reason. She has been a tireless campaigner for fair trade, sustainable, and ethical fashion.
In 2009 and 2010, Watson collaborated with fair trade fashion brand People Tree to come out with several lines of eco-friendly and fair-trade clothes. She partnered with Alberta Ferretti to create the organic Pure Threads line.
Ms. Watson is currently an ambassador for Camfed International, an organization that works to lift girls in rural Africa out of poverty through education. They’re also working to end child marriages in that country.
Although she’s constantly busy with her acting career, I think it’s amazing she has stayed so committed to the causes she cares most about. In an interview, Ms. Watson states, “I think young people like me are becoming increasingly aware of the humanitarian issues surrounding fast fashion and want to make good choices but there aren’t many options out there.” Thanks to her hard work and vision, young people now have more options to purchase fair trade fashion than ever.
